Value is the range of light and dark within an art piece. The Value Scale below shows eight different steps in value progression from white to black. White is the lightest value on the scale, as black is the darkest. Many artist use value to make objects appear solid. Using dark and light values as a way to make objects look more realistic is known as shading. ,
