Today I just learned about a Rpg Maker Vx Characterset template. A spriter from a popular forum decided to begin work on a template that will be perfect for making VX charactersets. I’m not going to give out all the details or give the entire template, as it is not for public release as of yet. But below you can see some of it.
I just wanted to show off my work with my goku breeze character by letting everyone view my progress and development. We have goku in front view doing some of his most famous attacks. There will be more to come in time, it’s just a matter of me sitting down and actually taking the time to do it. Also I will be developing a how to sprite goku breeze tutorial shortly. So check it out when I add it.
A while back Green Raven created a template named the Cucumber template. Though the template can be considered wonderful, there is a lack of resources for it. So recently a new spriter decided to take on the task of creating some resources for the template. Green Raven him self has made some characters with the template but not many.
The sprites below were created based off of Green Ravens Cucumber template.
Well for that to be answered it requires a little knowledge into the history of digital art. What many people may think pixel art is, it may not be. First of all Pixel art is a type of digital art that was frequently used in the making of computer and mobile phone games. It was first used in 1972, mentioned in publication ten years later and has grown from there.
The are some key aspects that make pixel art… well pixel art. Techniques of line art are used initially before dithering colors. Dithering can and will be explained in more detail here. The coloring of the pixel art is done before using anti-aliasing.
Pixel art is generally divided into two major categories, isometric and non-isometric. Isometric sprites are those that are at a certain angle, and non isometric are traditionally in standard view. Today pixel art is used in many ways. Pixel art has been used a lot in video games, including some Nintendo DS games. Eboy is well known artist that is famous for his use of pixel art.
Spriting is the art of drawing a person or animal as a pixalated image. It was commonly used when creating video games like Pokemon and Ninetales for the SNES and the Sega through programmes such as Mac Paint and Microsoft Paint but has recently been making a come back. People who draw spriting as a hobby commonly create pictures for magazines such as sprite comics. More recently artists have been hired to create sprites for MMORPG’s and avatars or buddy icons for websites. Many artists who use spriting use line art and blocking to create their pixelated image while using a computer program.
Some people don’t realize that you do not necessarily need a template in order to sprite. It actually is possible to sprite without using any kind of pre-shaped figure. Below you will see what I did to fully create one of my own original characters. He is rather simple, but it gets the point across. I will be working on a tutorial that show cases how to do this at some later date, but at the moment I don’t really feel like it
As you can see I show my progress from beginning to end with no real explanation, it’s meant to be an example of visual progression. You can pretty much notice the changes in each step.
This did not take very long it’s just a matter of getting down the look you want. Good luck everyone and happy spriting.
As promised I have just created and uploaded a brand new Colormagix tutorial. Here you can view the brand new how to sprite Agumon tutorial. Any feedback or comments on the tutorial are welcome. This new tutorial features the modified Colormagix tutorial display.
Spriting the Hair of a Breeze sprite can sometimes be challenging. Luckily, Green Raven has posted a little tutorial to show the basics of it. The tutorial is found in a thread in RMXPUniverse, and requires you to register. Once you register, you can view the thread here.
We plan on actually being able to access the tutorial and flash power it so that it is easier to use. As you already know colormagix was one of the first places to use the breeze template as well as implement a breeze tutorial. With the success of the first flash powered breeze template tutorial, there is no doubt that we will be able to do the same for the second. We are just waiting for permission to do so.
That lovable oath goku has got to be one of the most recognizable characters in anime history. He’s appeared in just about every dragon ball based video game. I thought that it was about time that I created a Goku of my own. Well this character is not entirely my own considering I chose to create it with the Breeze Template.
If you want to create your own breeze character, you can learn how by using the Breeze Template Tutorial. Or view it below!
